Asia Cup 2023: Round 1 Review

Asia Cup 2023 round 1 has been completed with some exciting matches between teams. So, the first match between Pakistan and Nepal is a completely one-sided match. Pakistan cricket team dominates in every department. Captain Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed scored 100 in the match and the bowling demolished the Nepal cricket team for 104 runs.

The second match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was also a good but low-scoring match. In this match, Bangladesh was all out for 164 runs despite Najmul Hossain Shanto`s 84 runs. Sri Lanka lost their top for 43 runs. Hence, the partnership between Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka laid the foundation for chasing and scoring a match-winning fifties. The Sri Lankan cricket team won by 5 wickets.

The third the most important match of the Asia Cup 2023 is India vs Pakistan. India won the toss and decided to bat first. Indian top-order batters are struggling against Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. The duo bowls amazingly and not to give runs. Shaheen Shah Afridi takes the wicket of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and cricket pundits encourage the bowling. The critical partnership between Hardik Pandya and Ishaan Kishan saved India from collapse and scored 87 and 82 runs respectively. Also, Naseem Shah and Haris took 3 wickets respectively. India team all out for 266 runs. This first time in Asia Cup all pacers took 10 wickets.

The fourth match was an easy win for Bangladesh as they scored 334 runs with the centuries of Najmul Hossain Santo and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Afghanistan is all out for 245 runs where Taskin Ahmed took 4 wickets and Ibrahim Zadran and their Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi scored the fifties for Afghanistan.

The fifth match of Asia Cup 2023 is typically an easy win for India. Nepal was all out for hard-fought 230 runs and Aasif Shiekh scored fifty and Sompal Kami 48 runs. Rain is interrupted this match and the target will be 145 runs from 23 overs. However, with the fifties of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, they won the match by 10 wickets. The sixth match is essential for both Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023 for qualifying for the Super 4 round. Sri Lanka needed a win whereas Afghanistan needed a win with a high margin. Sri Lanka’s openers gave a good start but Gulbadin Naib bowled well with 4 wickets and restricted Sri Lanka to 291 runs. Afghanistan needed to chase 292 runs from 37.1 overs to maintain a reasonable run rate. Afghanistan’s openers fell earlier but their middle order accelerated runs quickly and at once just like Afghanistan was winning but some mistakes ran Afghanistan out of the tournament and also the match. Sri Lanka won this match by 2 runs and qualified for Super 4s.
